Double Owl Painting: Archimedes

This is my newest painting, seperate white and black canvases that are painted in negative colors to form an owl's face, thus Archimedes! If you have trouble seeing the owl....look at it for a few moments: he'll fly out! Click images to enlarge!

Well, I can finally show you the final result framed! So here they are:

You can see my little Lord of the Rings collections I posses! These are parts of a much larger collection. I just wish the frames were a bit more matching...and that the background of the horse was green...

Future Planned Projects

I plan to create a cross-stitch piece for every culture of Middle Earth. My next one - which I know I will not began until my next semester break - is the Doors of Moria.
After that, it will be the Elves and Hobbits! Then I'll see what else there is to do!

My Cross-stitch: Cultures of Middle Earth - ROHAN

So you've seen my White Tree of Gondor. That is one of the many cultures of Middle Earth. I have also just completed another one today: the White Horse of Rohan (why is everything white in Middle Earth?!?!?!). This one, believe it or not, took me two years!! Not that it was a hard pattern to create, but I had started it straight after the White Tree of Gondor, school started, and I never completed it! It's been sitting in my drawer and just a few days ago I remembered it and thought, well since I'm on a short break from university, why not finish what I started ages ago! And so I did, so I am very happy that it doesn't have to sit in my drawer for any longer. Believe it or not, I was so fond of this horse, I decided to nickname it Barney. Funny and stupid, yes, but that's what happens when you study hard...

On alleycatscratch.com and The Lord of the Rings: The Art of the Two Towers, I found this great design of one of the Rohan banners. I'm glad I found this design, because all of the other Rohan banners - of mainly horses - were very, very complicated; and if this one took me TWO years to do, there would be no telling how long those other designs would take!

So here is the design:

I really, really liked it, but it extremely hard making a pattern out of this one, simply because the sketch is very rough.

You can see where it is outlined in green is my banner and horse!!

Now, as you can see, the horse is white with gold outline and the background is green. When I went shopping for some ambroidery cloth, very, very unfortunately, the only colour they had that was remotely close to green was blue. This was a HUGE disappointment, as Rohan's main colour is green! So I had to live with blue, only to find out two years later they bought back some green into stock...not surprising, might I add.

Same thread as the White Tree of Gondor, except with golden outlining, instead of silver. I just finished it today, so I am going tomorrow to have it framed.

My Cross-Stich - Cultures of Middle Earth

As a huge, huge Lord of the Rings fan, I have been doing something rather unique for the past couple of years. Taking some of the main designs of a Middle Earth culture, and creating my own cross-stitch patterns! It's very fun and I love the results at the end, but I must add that the following designs are the COPYWRITE OF NEW LINE CINEMA! I do not create these to make any prophits or the tiniest bit of money! They are for my personal use and pleasure only. That is called plagiarising and I am strongly against that. For these reasons I cannot/will not post any of my original patterns online.

The White Tree of Gondor

I originally came up with this idea when is saw this simple design on www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr. It was a beautiful design; I actually had the choice between these two trees, but I chose the one on the right.

I love the tree on the right - this was the tree that was embroidered on Pippin's Gondorian costume, and I think it is much more elegant than the tree on the left.

So, I made a cross-stitch pattern, went to Spotlight (a New Zealand crafts shop) and began to cross-stitch. Being two years ago, I can't quite remember how long it took me, but it wasn't too long, I don't think...

Here is the final result:

This one is cross-stitch with cotton embroidery thread and bordered with silver thread. It is framed at present and hangs on my living room wall!

This is a canvas painting which I loved doing. I generally love painting on canvases because they're so easy and fun to paint, yet they can be expensive. Thus I went round looking for canvases that are of high qality yet something affordable! So I found what is now a favorite shop - Ikes Emporium!!

So I found my art section and spent a long time thinking what I would paint so I could choose the appropriate canvas size. This is what I bought and started painting above.

The left-hand side is before the background was painted, (I personally think it looked better with the white background). And the right is the final product!!

Sculpture: Starting my folio

It is rather interesting, looking back at it now, how unsure I was of taking this course. It seemed very complicated and seemed to consume a lot of money. And it did, but at least it was worth it. I have around 10 CDs packed with photographs of unused documents and sculptures that at times I spent hours making, but they never ended us on my folio. I will be posting many of those images here.

Design: Initial Works

These six photoshopped images can be very disturbing! This is because it is a distortion of the human body based on the Star Sign of Cancer. This was a sperate assessment before the folio, not the folio assessment. (2006) They are flyers for an exhibition.
